Originally home to some of the worst slums in London the Ladbroke Grove and North Kensington area now largely comprises neat tree lined streets filled with Edwardian family homes.
Our Client’s required a single level basement to provide a full-size gymnasium with a functional utility laundry room and wet room shower.
At ground floor a glass extension was added to increase the size of the kitchen family room so that it would function as a family congregational space.
At basement level, the gymnasium features a ceiling height of 3.6m (12ft) and is air conditioned.
To facilitate a greater use of the utility room, slide away doors were installed that retreat within the wall thickness thereby allowing a more effective use of floor space.
The extension features large format sliding glass door panels which enable the external and internal spaces to combine when weather allows.
The family seated area is sunken to create a more intimate environment and to avoid blocking views from the kitchen to the garden.
The kitchen is of minimalist design featuring twin Wolff electronic induction cooktops that are flush finished to the adjacent Corian work surfaces. Pop up mechanical extraction is provided to the cooking area by concealed, retractable ventilators.
Floor finishes are provided with extra large format floor tiles measuring 1m wide x 3m long.
Staircase finishes are coordinated with the flooring and the stair handrail is a bronze patina effect below an oval oak handrail with French polish lacquer.
